Gout patients have significantly greater intercritical inflammation and lumbosacral spine monosodium urate crystal (MSU) deposition than control subjects, and trend toward greater deposition among patients with tophi. Preliminary results from a study using stringent Dual-Energy CT (DECT) threshold settings suggests MSU differences are not artifact.
